12 April 2023 – The world’s best woodchopping and sawing athletes are coming to Rotterdam as STIHL TIMBERSPORTS® prepares to host the 2023 World Trophy in the stunning surrounds of the ‘Onderzeebootloods’ in the Port of Rotterdam, on Saturday 10th June 2023.

The 2023 World Trophy will be held at the remarkable Onderzeebootloods, an historical submarine shipyard in the Port of Rotterdam, one of the city’s most renowned tourist spots.

The pinnacle event of the extremely challenging Trophy format is part of a three-day celebration of TIMBERSPORTS® in the Dutch city across the weekend of 9th– 11th June, with the Rookie World Championship opening the weekend on the Friday; the second iteration of the International Women Cup starting proceedings on the Saturday; and the BeNeLux Championships bookending the main event on Sunday.

The World Trophy will feature the 16 highest ranking TIMBERSPORTS® athletes in this competition format from around the world, who will go head-to-head in a series of knockout match-ups. In each match-up, athletes will have to complete four disciplines back-to-back: Stock Saw, Underhand Chop, Single Buck and Standing Block Chop. The fastest athlete from each match-up will progress to the next round, culminating in a grand final between the last two remaining competitors, where the winner will be crowned the TIMBERSPORTS® World Trophy Champion.

World class line-up of logger sports athletes set to compete in Rotterdam

A highly competitive field of 16 elite logger sports athletes is expected to line up for the event, with the 10 best Europeans from last year’s European Trophy accompanied by the best athlete from each of Australia, New Zealand, Canada and the USA, plus two wildcards to be nominated.

The STIHL TIMBERSPORTS® Rookie World Championship will kick off a weekend of high-octane logger sports axe-tion, featuring 12 of the best newcomers to the sport under the age of 25 in a three-

 

round competition across five disciplines: the Underhand Chop, Stock Saw, the Standing Block Chop, Single Buck and Springboard.

The World Trophy on Saturday will be preceded by the International Women Cup, with nine world class female athletes taking on three iconic TIMBERSPORTS® disciplines – Stock Saw, Single Buck and Underhand Chop.

Taking place the following day is the BeNeLux Pro Championship, with the Netherlands’ and Belgium’s elite taking to the stage and rounding out the TIMBERSPORTS® weekend in a three-round competition featuring all six disciplines including the Hot Saw.

The World Trophy made its return to the calendar in Vienna in 2022 with New Zealand’s Jack Jordan defeating American Jason Lentz in a thrilling final watched live by thousands of fans in front of Vienna’s stunning Rathausplatz, and millions of fans around the globe.
